A Bit About Us
The Northeast Missouri Humane Society strives to ensure a lifetime of loving care for animals
Here at Northeast Missouri Humane Society, we’re committed to investing our expertise and resources in order to further achieve our cause. We have been since 1966. Our mission is to prevent neglect, abuse, cruelty, and overpopulation of domestic animals, to provide a network service to the lost or homeless, and to educate the public on problems that matter. Each year we care for nearly 2000 homeless pets from the Northeast Missouri area. We continue to have a contract with the City of Hannibal to provide a home for strays picked up by the city's Animal Control. We take our responsibility very seriously, and we appreciate your support. If you are interested in adopting a companion or volunteering, please feel free to contact us. Just imagine what we can achieve together!
Home & Rescue
Founded on compassion
Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers who bring different perspectives and are willing to take the initiative to speak up for the animals that do not have a voice of their own. We currently have a Board of Directors that strive to do just that. They are the heart of our organization. Our directors know that the Northeast Missouri Humane Society emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support the community, and a desire for actions to speak louder than words. Our board and staff members make it their goal to do what is best for every single animals that calls our shelter home until they find their people.
We make every effort on a daily basis, with the help of our supporters, such as yourself, to find forever homes and rescues for all adoptable pets. Every time you share a post you are speeding up the process of a cat or dog being placed with a loving new family. At the NEMO Humane Society we DO NOT euthanize adoptable animals. At the NEMO Humane Society we DO NOT give animals a "time limit" to remain in our loving care. The cats and dogs at our shelter are cared for and loved until they are given a loving home or taken to an amazing rescue. Only animals suffering from significant medical issues or those that pose a danger to humans or other animals are humanely euthanized.
